Designer or algorithm? Artificial intelligence and the law in the design of green spaces

Share

Artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly common in the work of designers – including in the fields of landscape architecture and green space design. It helps to create visualisations, find inspiration and streamline the design process. However, alongside these new possibilities come questions regarding the law, authorship and liability.

These issues will be discussed during the workshop ‘Designer or algorithm? Artificial intelligence and the law in green space design’, organised by the National Association of Garden Designers (OSTO) during the GARDENIA 2026 trade fair.

The session will be led by Sara Til-Dąbrowska, a solicitor specialising, amongst other things, in commercial litigation, property law and the legal aspects of the investment process relating to the development of green spaces.

AI in design – where do the legal issues begin?

During the workshop, participants will examine the practical aspects of using artificial intelligence in design work. Topics to be covered will include:

  • the legality of using AI in a designer’s work,
  • rights to designs created using artificial intelligence,
  • the possibility of protecting a design under copyright,
  • the rights of the designer and the AI tool provider,
  • the use of graphics, visualisations and other materials generated by AI,
  • legal risks associated with the use of artificial intelligence in design and business activities.

This is a particularly important topic for landscape architects, green space designers, contractors and all professionals who already use AI tools or plan to incorporate them into their work.

The workshops will provide an opportunity to gain practical knowledge that will help participants make informed use of the possibilities offered by artificial intelligence, whilst taking into account the relevant legal issues.
